Instructions

  1. Proof the yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in half of the warmed water and let it sit until foamy, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Prepare butter mixture: In a large bowl, combine the sliced butter, sugar, and kosher salt. Pour the remaining warm water over the mixture and let it sit for 5 minutes to soften the butter.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: Whisk the butter mixture thoroughly to combine, even if the butter is not fully melted. Add the egg yolk and the proofed yeast mixture, whisking until fully incorporated.
  4. Add flour: Stir in the all-purpose flour until just mixed to form a soft dough.
  5. Prepare baking dish and rest dough: Grease a baking dish with some melted butter, coating the bottom and sides well. Spread the prepared dough evenly into the dish, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rest for 15 minutes to allow slight rising.
  6. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Assemble cheese sticks: Remove the plastic wrap, brush the top of the dough with the remaining melted butter. Evenly sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese, grated parmesan cheese, garlic salt, and dried oregano on top.
