These Hot Roll Sandwiches are a quick and delicious lunch option featuring sub rolls layered with seasoned butter, provolone cheese, deli ham, and a blend of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Optional baby spinach and pickles add a fresh crunch, making it a perfect warm, cheesy sandwich baked to melty perfection.

Ingredients

Rolls and Butter Mixture

  • 4 large sub rolls, sliced horizontally
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Sandwich Fillings

  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • ½ lb deli ham
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 cup baby spinach (optional)
  • ½ cup sliced pickles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to get it ready for baking the sandwiches.
  2. Prepare seasoned butter: In a small bowl, mix the softened unsalted butter with garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  3. Butter the rolls: Spread the seasoned butter evenly inside each sliced sub roll, ensuring full coverage for rich flavor.
  4. Assemble the sandwiches: On the buttered side of the rolls, layer the provolone cheese slices, deli ham, and if desired, add baby spinach and sliced pickles for extra freshness and texture.
  5. Add the cheese topping: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan over the layered sandwiches.
  6. Bake covered: Place the sandwiches on a foil-lined baking sheet and cover them with foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes to melt the cheese and warm the fillings thoroughly.
  7. Finish baking uncovered: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes to allow the tops to brown slightly and the cheese to become bubbly and golden.
  8. Cool and serve: Let the sandwiches cool slightly to make slicing easier, then cut and serve warm for a comforting lunch.

Notes

  • You can customize the sandwich fillings with your favorite deli meats or vegetables.
  • To make it spicier, add some crushed red pepper flakes to the butter mixture.
  • For a crispier top, broil for 1-2 minutes after baking uncovered, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  • These sandwiches are best eaten fresh but can be reheated in the oven or air fryer for a few minutes.
