Delightful Rice Krispie football-shaped treats coated in rich chocolate and decorated with white icing laces, perfect for game day snacks or fun party desserts.

Ingredients

Base

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 (10 oz) bag mini marshmallows
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional but delicious)

Coating and Decoration

  • 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or melting wafers
  • White icing or melted white chocolate (for “laces”)

Instructions

  1. Melt the Base: In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until they are fully melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract if using.
  2. Mix In Cereal: Add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture. Gently fold the cereal in until it’s evenly coated. Allow the mixture to cool for 2 to 3 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  3. Shape the Footballs: Lightly grease your hands to prevent sticking and shape handfuls of the mixture into football-shaped ovals. Place each shaped football on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to set.
  4. Coat with Chocolate: Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave, heating in 30-second intervals and stirring between each interval until smooth. Dip each football into the melted chocolate or spoon chocolate over the top to evenly coat. Let excess chocolate drip off before placing them back on the parchment paper.
  5. Add the Laces: Using a piping bag or a ziplock bag with the tip snipped off, pipe white icing or melted white chocolate onto the footballs to create authentic football laces. Chill the treats in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes to allow the chocolate and icing to set completely.

Notes

  • For best results, lightly grease your hands to prevent the sticky marshmallow mixture from clinging while shaping.
  • Vanilla extract is optional but adds a lovely depth of flavor to the treats.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with milk or dark chocolate according to your preference.
  • If you don’t have white icing, melted white chocolate works equally well for the football laces.
  • Store completed Rice Krispie footballs in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • These treats can be made ahead and chilled or frozen for convenience.
